Spike Club Members

Spike Club LogoDear New HBA Member:

I would like to take this opportunity to personally welcome and challenge you to become a Spike Club member.

Our association ranks in the top 100 local associations in the nation, with a membership of 735+ companies strong, and a retention rate of 86%. These statistics have only been achievable through the hard work and efforts of our members.

In construction, spikes are essential to shaping our buildings and making them strong. In building a strong association, Spikes are priceless. Spike Club members are committed to the development of the association, and they work to recruit new members, get members involved and retain members.

On the national level, the Spike Club is an organization comprised of all individuals in affiliated associations who have attained National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Spike status. The NAHB Spike Club Program is designed to identify, recognize and reward those local members active in direct recruitment and retention. NAHB provides the overall structure, rules and awards such as lapel pins, plaques, jackets, and other awards. However, the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem (HBAWS) provides a tremendous amount of flexibility within the structure to tailor the program to meet our needs and goals.

Membership development is a top priority for all associations that want a viable future for themselves and the industry. Without a continuous influx of new members and the maintaining of current memberships, the well being of the association is in jeopardy. The intent of the Spike Club program is to recognize the producers in this effort.

How does one become a Spike? You must earn Spike credits by participating in the activities listed below.

Spike Credits:

1. ½ (one half) Spike credit for being an Ambassador and attending and/or leading a monthly New Member Orientation held prior to membership meetings or selling raffle tickets.

2. 1 (one) Spike credit for personally visiting and orienting a new member who did not attend a scheduled orientation.

3. 1 (one) Spike credit for every three renewal phone calls made, regardless of the outcome.

4. 1 (one) Spike credit for sponsoring a new member.

5. 1 (one) Spike credit for securing the renewal of a member who has canceled or whose membership has lapsed.

6. 1 (one) Spike credit is automatically given by NAHB for first year renewals. If the sponsor is no longer a member, it is up to the discretion of the Director of Operations and Member Services to distribute those credits.

Spike Credits are awarded by NAHB based on the credits you have earned locally and are recognized in the following sequence:

1. When an individual earns his/her first credit, he/she becomes a Spike Candidate and remains at that status until he/she has earned up to six (6) credits.

2. To become a Spike, an individual must earn six credits within two consecutive membership years. If Spike status is not achieved by the third consecutive year, credits from the first year in the sequence are lost.

3. To retain Spike status, a minimum of two credits must be earned each year until a total of 25 credits are received and Life Spike status is attained. If these credit requirements for reaching Life Spike are not met in any one-membership year, all prior years' Spike credits will be canceled. To rejoin the Spike Club, a member must re-qualify as a 6 credit Spike.

The intent of the Spike Club program is to boost membership through awards, recognition, camaraderie, and overall fun. On behalf of the 2006 Spike Club, I again challenge you to join the ranks of Spike, receive the awards, and enjoy the fellowship.

For further information or to attend a Spike Club meeting, pleas call the HBA office, 768.5942. Spike meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the HBA office. Everyone is welcome!

Sincerely,

Brad Hedglin
2007 Spike Club Chairperson
